For GrantWriters Only

I am overwhelmed by the list of websites/databases available online and want to organize them and eliminate whatever is redundant. Where do you begin? I'm assuming the foundation center's directory is right up on top. I keep reading about the federal register, but how does that work in relation with grants.gov? Do I need to search both? And once I combed through either or both, do I still need to look at the federal agencies/cabinets related to my nonprofit?
Thanks!

Hello, Miriam:

Your shortlist may vary depending on your mission focus. What mission areas do you assist with?

Best Regards,
Melanie
Hi Miriam,

A couple of observations from my point of view. First, the Foundation Center's search engine is great for foundations and coporations. Grants.gov is where you want to search for federal government grants and then your state probably has a web page for grants too. The Federal Register is an excellent place to look but I tend to go there second, after I see an announcement on grants.gov. Check both of them weekly and sign up for automatic notifications too. You absolutely want that Federal Register announcement and the RFP guidelines, but remember that the Federal Register takes precedence when there are discrepancies.

Like Melanie said, you need to begin by defining your mission and knowing what you want to fund or you could get really lost and bogged down!

We've put some resources online that you might want to look at including a free White Paper on Grant Research, it's basic but a good starting point. Also a couple of free webinars on the topic here - Grant Research and here Grant Research Drilling Down.

Cheers!
Derek
Hi Derek

Thanks for this! I'd love to read the white paper, but it's inside something called Hubspot which requires membership. Is there another way to get the paper (or is Hubspot a resource I should add to my collection?)
Jane
Hi Jane,

If you just fill in your name and email it will give you the link for the White Paper. Or you can shoot me an email at derek@grantgoddess.com and I'd be happy to send it to you. Hubspot is just our inbound marketing service that we use to build our online network.

Cheers,
Derek
