For GrantWriters Only

If you could be taught or mentored by the person you most admire in the field, who would it be and why?

I was lucky enough to meet some of the people I most admire at the national Grant Professionals Association conference in Florida earlier this month, and while I was there I joined the committee that will help select the people who will present at next year's conference, so who would you like to meet?

Share your thoughts with me and I'll be sure to share your comments with the committee!

I most admire my boss Veronica Robbins. She is an entrepreneur, an outstanding grant writer, a person of the highest ethics, and she's brilliant to boot. It's not really fair that all these excellent qualities are wrapped into one person, but that is Veronica. Veronica is a mom, wife, and a great boss. Her ability to see details and understand complex processes is second to none.

I first worked with Veronica about 12 years ago at another company. We both left to start our own companies and a little over a year ago Veronica and I re-connected through a common client. Veronica asked me to come and work with her company and I'm so happy I did. Veronica is simply the finest grant writer I have ever worked with and I learn from her constantly.

Veronica would be an outstanding presenter at your conference.
In the non profit world, I would recommend that you invite a client of mine to come and speak. Her name is Kristine Thornton and she is the President of the Valley Animal Center in Fresno, CA. She is one of those rare, totally committed people. She started the organization from scratch and has never been paid for her work. She is amazing and such a cool person. I don't know if she'd be willing to come or not, but I highly recommend her as someone who can speak to the joys and challenges of starting, building, and operating a non profit organization.
