For GrantWriters Only

I'm thrilled to find this venue for connecting with professionals in my field and looking forward to gleening insight from each of you.  Likewise, I am happy to be of assistance in any way that I can, so feel free to reach out to me if needed.

I would love to get some advice from you all on how to handle the recent growth of my business.  I'm aware of the fact that this is a great problem to have, mind you!  I have several contracting opportunities in a variety of industries.  Each one will help build my portfolio and open the door to future opportunities.  I do not want to turn any of these down, but realistically, there is no possible way that I can fulfill each commitment simultaneously.  Definitely not to the standard of quality that I pride myself on or have offered to these prospects.

I desperately need to hire someone, but I do not even know where to start.  I need administrative assistance, to help me keep everything organized, field calls, set appointments, etc.  I could also use research assistance and some writing/editing.  The problem with the latter is, I have a hard time of "letting go" of any part of the process.  It will be very difficult for me to trust that someone else will be as detailed and efficient as I would require.  I know this is not true, and I could really use some advice on how to proceed.  I want my business to grow, and currently the potential for growth is tremendous.

Thanks for your help!

Veronica, I'm with you. I'm in the same place! I've tried to hire clerical support, but it has not worked out because they just don't keep up to my standards. Plus, let's be honest, sometimes I know I can just get it done that much more quickly.

When you find an answer to this, I'd love to hear it! :)

Might it help to offer an internship opportunity to an MPA student at a nearby college/university?

Hello Veronica. I am belatedly coming upon this discussion of yours. I have always favored working as part of a team over working alone and have partnered with several others over time. Sometimes this has worked out; other times it hasn't. I now feel that I have valuable experience to offer on the topic that I would be happy to share with you if you're interested. Yes, letting go of one's way of doing things is part of the process. So, too, is realizing that there is much to learn from other's ways of working. Since in the end I always see a better product when collaborating, this isn't hard for me.
