Hoping we might share some info on our favorite clients and best experiences with funding agencies. I have been having great success lately with Mandela MarketPlace: http://www.mandelamarketplace.org/
They are about to open Mandela Foods Cooperative, offering fresh produce to the West Oakland community of 20,000 that has had no supermarket for years. They are also forming the Healthy Neighborhood Stores Alliance as a self-directed distribution system bringing organic produce from small farms to corner and convenience stores at affordable prices. In the past few weeks, they have been recommended for first-time funding by the Kaiser and San Francisco Foundation. They were also just named one of five applicants recommended for this year's California Department of Public Health's Network for a Healthy California. Is anyone else working in food security or other nutrition-related issues? Would love to chat about it.
