Hello all,

I am primarily a consultant to nonprofits in fundraising, governance education, management and planning, and I submit grant requests on behalf of our clients that are running capital campaigns. So although I list myself as a part-time grant writer, I am full time in the nonprofit world. I finally realized that I would enjoy the company (even virtual) of other grantwriters. Pleased to make your acquaintances!

I currently live in Seaford, DE and have been working with non profit organization for little over 12 years. I offer a variety of services as well, to include proposal development, management, consulting and more.

For your small businesses, I am on the eve of publishing two magazines, one for Delmarva Small businesses and the other is for faith based businesses.

Hi Everyone,
My fee is an hourly fee. From what I've been able to learn on-line fees range from 40-100 per hour as Pat said depending on the grant writer's experience level and the anticipated complexity of the project. This year my fees are lower because of the economy which I understand is the way most are charging. I believe an hourly rate is the fairest method of charging for all concerned.

I've researched it and grantwriting groups who advertise on the Internet charge per project. They charge up to $1500 per project for federal grants. The estimated time for completion seems to determine the rate. I've read that most federal grants take a minimum of 80 hours and closer to 150 hours for a winning proposal. This is what I've experienced. That means they're only making $10/hour!

I'm wondering if I should pursue membership and certification from the American Grantwriter's Association. Is anyone else certified? If so, has it been a valuable experience? Thanks for any feedback here. Obviously, we don't need to be certified to write applications, but if it's a helpful marketing tool, I may be interested.

Hello Pat, thanks for responding. I'm currently writing proposals for local grassroots nonprofits. Still learning how to set my pricing structure in this area. Do you use an hourly price structure or a price per project? Any insight would be helpful.

I've been in-house for 8 years writing state and foundation grants for a healthcare organization. For the past nearly two years, I've been independent working for my former employer part time. Now I'm looking to expand the business with some new clients.

It's true that there doesn't seem to be a lot of Delaware grant writers, but I think there may be a lot working in-house at small non-profits throughout the state. My guess is that they wear more than just one hat and are categorized as fundraising or development officers. As I market my business I hope I'll learn more about who is writing grants in Delaware.

Hi Pat and Linda,

I am going to jump in even though I am not in Delaware--I am in Cecil County, Maryland. I have a consulting firm that provides a variety of services to nonprofits including grant writing. I have several clients in Delaware, many in Maryland as well as throughout the U.S.

There don't seem to be many grant writers in Delaware--we are a precious commodity. I have searched high and low trying to find others to develop professional relationships with. Now, I just rely on the American Association of Grant Professionals.
