Hello everyone! If you haven't already seen it, I've posted an event on behalf of some of our members who are trying to start up a new chapter of the Grant Professionals Association (GPA), formerly the American Association of Grant Professionals (AAGP) in Pennsylvania. If you are located in eastern PA and are interested in joining a professional chapter, I hope you will attend the organizing meeting on November 13. See Events for more details.

Sounds good. Are you on LinkedIn also?

Hi Sarah - I work nearby in Harrisburg for a social service consulting agency called Family Design Resources, Inc. It sounds as if you have made good progress in the last six months. I am new to grantwriting and have been here a year. So far no luck, but it's not my only focus either. I'm also responsible for program management, communications, marketing and fundraising :) I would love at times to connect locally with other grant writers to toss ideas around.

Hi Deb & Stephen: I live in Allentown, PA and belong to the NJ Chapter of the AAGP. Please let me know if you wish to possibly schedule a meeting in the near future. I'll try to contact more grantwriters who live outside of Philadelphia. Conceivably, we could create a new PA Chapter of the AAGP.
Best regards, Ed Stephon

Hi Stephen et al., I'm glad to see that I'm not the only person with a cut-off-forehead photo. Someday maybe I'll learn how to fix my pic. I spent more than 10 years in the publishing industry--book publishing to be exact. I was an in-house editor for a small book publisher in Lancaster, PA, and then worked for a year as an associate literary agent. I reinvented myself as a grant writer, so I'm sure you'll do well, Stephen. Your background in business proposals will really help you write clear, logical project narratives as well as craft complete budgets. I recommend "Writing for a Good Cause." It was the first book I read that tells about all that writers do for nonprofits, and in my 5 years as an on-staff grant writer I referred back to it many times. Another good book is The Foundation Center's "Guide to Winning Proposals." I find it helpful to SEE actual proposals and read comments from foundation reviewers, and that's what this book provides. Best wishes for a successful transition.

Greetings, I am located in Vandergrift, PA, 32 miles northwest of Pittsburgh (15 miles from New Kensington and in Kiski Valley (Apollo, Leechburg & Vandergrift). I have over 22 years in the publishing field (mainly newspapers and magazines) and the last 22 years writing business proposals (mostly RFP, RFQ in the public and government entities) for architectural/engineering/construction clients plus business and marketing plans. I also have years of service on numerous boards of non-profits. I am presently studying and moving into the proposal and grant writing field.
