Software for filling in on-line PDF forms

Hi Everyone,I do not have the correct software to fill-in some of the on-line PDF grant forms. I have tried the PDF Typewriter software, but it's really a low quality solution and not one I that am happy with using right now. Is Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 the only solution for filling in PDF forms?  If so, is there a good solution for obtaining the software for a non-profit besides going through Tech Soup (they don't have it) or Adobe (they refer you to a re-seller an it's still $140).  I have found…See More

My First Education Client

Happy New Year everyone!I am working with my first education oriented client. They teach Historic Preservation techniques. Does anyone have any tips about how to apply for various types of funding for general operating expenses for them? They are located in a historic structure(s), that they use in their teaching process. The building(s) need a lot of upkeep, so the operational costs are kind of choking them. I have located some foundations who support historic preservation, but could use any…See More

Profile Information

What organization do you represent? (Please spell out any abbreviations, and include the website address of your organization if available, using the format: http://www.domainname.org)
South Loop Digital
What role do you play at your organization?
Consultant
What are your specialties?
Grant writing, communications, event management, public relations and volunteer recruitment for small non-profit organizations in Chicago.
How long have you been a grant writer?
Less than 1 year
Are you a part-time or full-time grant writer?
Part-time Grant Writer
To which professional fundraising or grant writer associations do you belong?
No
What is your greatest challenge in obtaining grants?
One of my clients is an agency with a Catholic name. No matter how many times I say that they are a non-sectarian organization (the doors really are open to anyone based on need) the organization is still perceived to be a Catholic run non-profit. This same organization only serves 50 people, so it's been tough to find grants because of them not serving a large enough group.

Hello Maureen and welcome to the For GrantWriters Only learning community. I am so glad you joined. If you have any questions, feel free to post to the forum or contact me directly.

Thanks for jumping right in and joining some groups. What kind of education are you looking for - degree, certificate, or continuing education? Depending on what you are looking for and your budget, there are varied options. Many people find the workshops offered through the Foundation Center helpful, others seek a more comprehensive program such as that offered by some community colleges or The Grantsmanship Center. There are also some excellent books on the subject. See the forum topic on this and other getting started topics. Joining your local chapter of the American Association of Grant Professionals is another excellent option.

Best Regards,
Melanie
